As Sport Witness pointed out on Wednesday, Mundo Deportivo have decided to believe the Thomas Vermaelen to Everton rumour.
The Catalan newspaper claimed Vermaelen’s agent had been in talks with Everton this week, with parties trying to progress a possible transfer. Everton wanted guarantees over the player’s fitness before committing themselves, which sounds something of an impossibility.
Thursday’s edition of the same newspaper states that both Everton and West Brom ‘would like to incorporate’ Vermaelen into their squads.
If the Everton rumour is to be taken as fact, then Mundo Deportivo seem happy to throw in Tony Pulis’ club as well.
In the same article, it’s explained that Vermaelen is already ruled out of Barcelona’s Supercopa match against Real Madrid, having picked up an injury in preseason. The Belgian defender has suffered a bruise to his left knee, and it continues to cause problems.
This presents problems for Everton and West Brom, believe Mundo Deportivo, because it ‘makes it difficult’ for offers to be made.
On top of what the Catalan newspaper say, it also waves a great big red flag as a warning to both Everton and West Brom.
