Bought from Everton in the summer thanks to a buy-back clause, Gerard Deulofeu had the perfect chance to show everyone he was capable of playing for his childhood club, Barcelona.
Unfortunately, and we’ve already covered it, it hasn’t gone to plan so far, and the Spanish winger is already finding himself out of favour in Catalonia, having been left out of Ernesto Valverde’s plans quite a bit recently.
Out of favour at Goodison Park and far from impressing Ronald Koeman, Gerard Deulofeu was sent on loan to AC Milan, where a decent run of form caught Barcelona’s eye.
Managing to get a decent amount of money for an underperforming player, we said letting him leave Goodison Park was one of the best decisions the under pressure Dutch manager ever made, and it’s vindicated even more now.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are already considering the sale of the 23-year-old, and while his release clause currently stands at €20m, they might find it difficult to get that much for him.
With Paco Alcacer already on the transfer list, the Catalan outlet state Deulofeu might not be far behind, even with Ousmane Dembélé injured for the foreseeable future.
It’s an odd situation, and there’s already ‘talk’ of another loan move to Milan in January, although that remains to be seen, considering the clauses Everton put in place in case Barcelona did trigger their buyback ability.
