If Everton do manage to avoid the drop under Sean Dyche, there will be a lot of work to do on the transfer market in the summer.
The Toffees have been lingering for far too long down the bottom half of the Premier League over the past couple of seasons, and reinforcements will be needed.
Considering their economic situation, however, Everton will need to focus on relatively cheap transfers, unlike the €75m one for Tammy Abraham they were linked with on Thursday.
A young midfielder worth around €15m? That sounds a lot better.
The man we are talking about is Joan González, who left Barcelona’s youth teams to try his luck at Lecce in Italy, where they are currently a comfortable 15th in Serie A, nine points above the relegation zone.
The 21-year-old has been a big part of that success, and Everton have taken notice of him for a few months now, first linked with him back in December.
The Merseyside club were said to be one of a few Premier League sides scouting the Spaniard, with Lecce reportedly open to a €15m deal.
That never happened in January, since the Toffees had no money to spend, but this summer could be different, especially if they do remain in England’s top tier.
Toro.it in Italy look at what the future could hold for the Lecce man, who is part of a very talented squad that could rake in some nice profits for his club in the next transfer window.
They state that the player signed on a free in 2021 ‘is valued at €15m’, and there are ‘eyes on him’ from clubs in Italy, such as Juventus and AC Milan, but also ‘from Tottenham, Everton, West Ham and Borussia Dortmund’.
Therefore, it seems the Blues are still thinking about González for next summer, but considering the competition, they would certainly need a spot in the Premier League to convince him to move.
