As Sporting’s season hasn’t been very good, political and managerial problems have been taking all the attention from the local press.
That’s why we’ve seen a shortage of news linking their talents to other clubs lately, although the outlet from other countries could do this job as well.
As mentioned by the website, Everton, Southampton and Napoli are also said to be interested in the defender, although the rumours have been quiet for a bit. Southampton were especially mentioned by A Bola a few months ago, although nothing happened in the January market.
Semedo has been showing some good potential for a few years now, and Milannews24 claims it’s just a ‘matter of time’ until he sign for another European club due to his form. But what they don’t say is that the player has been benched in the past few games, as manager Jorge Jesus has been opting to play Paulo Oliveira instead.
This should mean that Sporting would have no objection in selling Semedo soon, as long as the interested clubs pay for what they want.
Semedo currently has a €45m release clause in a contract which runs until 2022. Neither Southampton or Everton would want to pay such a fee for the player, and would have to talk Sporting down from that amount.
Both Claude Puel and Ronald Koeman regularly send scouts to Portugal, so they’ll have an overview of the player’s situation.
