After shining at the Euros, Denzel Dumfries would have expected to have secured a transfer by now, particularly when it was clear early on that Everton and Inter wanted him.
With the tournament now firmly in the rearview mirror, though, Dumfries is yet to make the move he or PSV Eindhoven wants.
Talks about the interest from Everton and Inter have been regular, with it even suggested on more than one occasion that either side could be about to make their move.
Those rumours have come and gone like passing clouds, though, with Dumfries remaining a PSV player and yet to seriously look close to leaving.
He’s on extended leave from the club for the time being as he looks to sort out a transfer, but it appears that will not be coming any time soon.
Both Voetbal International and Eindhovens Dagblad cover the situation today, and unfortunately for Everton fans, it appears there is little going on.
First ED report that Dumfries has been given ‘a little longer off’ to try and sort a transfer but is now likely to start pre-season with the club at the weekend if he is not sold by then.
That’s looking unlikely to happen at present as there is ‘little news to report’ about the defender, except that Everton and Inter ‘remain interested’ in him.
Voetbal International back that up, stating that it is ‘relatively quiet’ around the defender at this moment in time, despite it being known for some time that Everton and Inter are ‘targeting’ him this summer.
In other words, there’s been little progress as PSV are still waiting for an official bid or even any sort of talks about Dumfries, and nobody has stepped up as yet.
Perhaps that will change in the coming days, but the likelihood looks slim, with this saga seemingly set to run on for some time yet.
