Everton defender Yerry Mina is ‘very much liked’ by Napoli, but they don’t believe the Blues will sanction the loan deal they want for the Colombian.
That’s according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, who back up claims that Mina is on Napoli’s list of options to replace the departed Kostas Manolas.
He recently secure a move back to his native Greece, leaving Luciano Spaletti with just two central defenders and the need to find another in the January transfer market.
Everton’s Mina was named as one of the potential targets yesterday with it stated he was on their list, but their desire for a six-month loan deal could scupper things.
Gazzetta pick up on that and back it up, stating that Napoli intend to wait until the last few days of the January market to make a move and find their replacement for Manolas.
They are currently casting their net far and wide in the hunt for that man but will soon narrow it down while working out how much they actually have to spend.
Mina is a player that is ‘very much liked’ as he is considered an ‘expert’ who would bring ‘quality’ to Spalletti’s defence.
But Napoli are only looking for a loan at this moment in time, and there is a feeling that is unlikely to be granted, at least at the beginning of the transfer window.
That then, suggests that Everton may change their stance on Mina later in the window, perhaps if they can’t find anyone willing to pay outright for him.
The Colombian appears to be on the sellable players at Goodison Park, with Rafa Benitez wielding his influence on the squad and having recently criticised Mina’s injury record.
The defender is also out of contract in 2023, meaning this next window and then the summer are the last ones in which Everton can sell and make money out of him.
That seems to be a part of their thinking, although if they are looking to make money then Napoli are not the ones they should be trying to do a deal with.
