Since Yerry Mina joined Everton in 2018, the Colombian press has been giving the Toffees a lot more attention than they do with other Premier League sides.
Then things obviously grew when James Rodriguez joined the Goodison Park side this summer, making the club one of the most commented on in the South American country.
Now as both Mina and Rodriguez are back from the international break and prepare to face Liverpool in the Premier League, the Colombian media brings a lot of hype to the Merseyside derby.
The homepage of Marca’s South American edition has at least three stories on what they can expect from Colombian players in the big match against the Reds.
The first one is, of course, about Mina’s fitness. The defender couldn’t feature against Chile, and they say he’s now a concern for Carlo Ancelotti at the weekend. The player was in pain for Tuesday’s game, and is now considered to be doubtful.
However, in case he does play, Marca says he seeks ‘revenge’ for the 5-2 loss at Anfield Road last season. They say Mina had the ‘bad luck’ of being in Everton’s worst derby loss in 84 years, and now wants to be on the pitch to fight back.
Regarding James Rodriguez, Marca writes the player will have the ‘hardest challenge’ since joining Everton, as he’s about to face Andrew Robertson from Liverpool.
The outlet makes a series of compliments to the Reds player, listing all the other left-backs faced by James Rodriguez and saying no one was as good as Robertson.
Marca claims it’s finally time to see how good the Toffees are, as a game of this level will show if they can at least get a European spot for next season.
