It’s been well documented in the Spanish press that Barcelona were keen on signing Eric García in the summer transfer window.

The La Liga side failed to find an agreement with Manchester City for the centre-back, whose contract at the Etihad runs out after this season.

He has decided against signing an extension with the Citizens, which would allow the 19-year-old to join the Catalan club for a lower fee in January or on a free transfer next summer.

Barca saw multiple offers turned down by Pep Guardiola’s side because their proposals never met the fee requested by the English club.

Friday’s edition of Sport has a short update on the defender and states Ronald Koeman’s side ‘remains in constant contact’ with the Spain international’s environment.

After missing out on signing the City player in the last window, the Blaugrana have decided to ‘cool the issue’ until the start of next year.

Barca will try to make an offer for García in the winter market, but the newspaper suggests those in charge at the Camp Nou are ‘clear that Manchester City could continue with their tough position demanding an off-market amount’

García and Barcelona believe it would be more viable for the player to arrive at the Catalan club as a free agent after this season.
