Everton goalkeeper João Virgínia is reportedly arriving in Portugal to complete his move to Sporting today.

According to newspaper Record, the player had been isolated due to Covid-19 protocols, and after having a negative test, he’s now ready to fly to his home country.

Virgínia is now expected to have his medicals and sign a one-year deal with Sporting.

The 21-year-old, who had been an option for the Toffees last season, can now be permanently signed by the Lions if a clause of €3.5m is triggered.

Meanwhile, newspaper O Jogo features a big article explaining that Sporting have had Virgínia as a target since 2018. At that time, he was leaving Arsenal, and the move to Lisbon only didn’t happen because of the attacks at Alvalade, when some fans attacked players from the Lions’ squad at their own training centre.

Virgínia then ended up moving to Everton’s academy. He even had a short loan spell at Reading in the 2019/20 season, and has been at Goodison Park since January 2020. He was used three times by Carlo Ancelotti last season, and could now be leaving the Toffees for good.
