Everton outclassed West Ham United at the weekend as Marco Silva’s tactical plan trumped that of Manuel Pellegrini, and the Hammers defence wobbled repeatedly.
The best player for the home side was Łukasz Fabiański, and the result would have been more difficult to deal with for West Ham had it not been for goalkeeper’s performance.
None of this is to say that Everton players didn’t do well individually, because several very much did.
One of those was Bernard, who scored his first Premier League goal to put the Toffees 2-0 ahead, after Kurt Zouma had got the opener.
The Brazilian’s performance has been recognised by Gazzetta dello Sport, who have included him in their European Team of the Week.
Each week the grand old Italian newspaper pick a selection of the best performers from around Europe, and Bernard was one of only two Premier League choices, the other being Crystal Palace’s Patrick van Aanholt.
Both are joined by some good company, with rising Lille star Nicolas Pepe in there, as well as Lionel Messi.
