Everton’s Lucas Digne is the man that Inter Milan want to fill their left-back position, but they need to work out a deal with the Toffees.
That’s according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, who say that the Italian is the ‘chosen’ one for the Nerazzurri.
Digne is out of favour at Goodison Park after something of a falling out with Everton manager Rafa Benitez behind the scenes.
He is now widely expected to leave the club in the January transfer window, with Everton having already signed a replacement in the form of Vitaliy Mykolenko.
Several clubs in Europe have been named as suitors for the Frenchman’s signature, including Inter Milan, who need to find a left-back to replace Aleksandar Kolarov and provide competition to Ivan Perisic.
Gazzetta say that Digne is the man they have ‘chosen’ for this as they want to take advantage of his ‘difficult days’ on Merseyside.
The problem is that Inter can only afford a loan deal with a right to buy, something Everton aren’t interested in at this moment in time.
They ‘do not want to give up’ their intention to secure a deal that includes an ‘obligation’ to buy, and so it will ‘take time’ to ‘let the negotiations settle’.
In other words, Inter Milan don’t want to be tied down to any commitment and need to work on Everton to convince them to accept the deal they want.
Whether they can do so remains to be seen, and there is also interest from Chelsea to consider, but it suggests that the issue around Digne is unlikely to be resolved any time soon.
