It’s increasingly clear Everton have their eye on a potential signing at Benfica.
Since the summer, the Toffees have watched at least ten of the Lisbon side’s matches, and a club official travelled again at the weekend to see Benfica beat Maritimo 4-0.
They were joined by representatives from Wolves, Manchester United, Brighton & Hove Albion and Sheffield Wednesday, reports A Bola.
Ruben Dias has been suggested as a target more than once, but he was always a difficult option given his €60m buyout clause. On Friday he extended his contract and the new clause is €100m, making a move to Everton even less likely.
Ferro, his central defensive partner, would be much cheaper and he put in a good display in front of the Everton scout.
Rafa Silva has been linked on occasion, yet he’s been out of action since October with a muscle injury and Everton have continued to send their spies during that period.
Andrija Živković is another one to have been linked but who hasn’t been playing, with his absence due to selection… or lack of it.
André Almeida played at right back for Benfica against Maritimo, and could potentially be an option should Djibril Sidibé leave Goodison Park when his loan deal expires.
Everton are cooking something up. They don’t scout all of Portugal’s big clubs like this and haven’t had such a pattern of ‘spying’ for a while.
