On Thursday, a story appeared in the English press about Everton’s desire to bring Jean-Michael Seri to the Premier League.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the Toffees linked with the Nice midfielder, as the Guardian also claimed of a £25m transfer potentially being on the cards, but the latest from France suggests that’s not going to happen.
According to Foot Mercato, a source close to the player has revealed ‘an influential agent in the Premier League’ has been contracted in order to get something sorted in the coming weeks.
While Seri has allegedly been offered to Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal, Everton wasn’t on this list, and the French website state the Toffees aren’t interested in him.
The reason behind this is Sam Allardyce’s happiness with the depth in the Ivory Coast international’s position, and would rather spend the money strengthening his defence and attack in January.
As for Liverpool, well, the likely departure of Emre Can in the summer could lead to Jürgen Klopp to look for a replacement, even with Naby Keita coming in from RB Leipzig.
There wouldn’t even be any harm in bringing Seri to Anfield in January, and it could help him get settled for next season, ready to step in once the Germany international leaves.
That, and he’s not cup tied for the Champions League this season.
