Everton are one of the interested parties in left-back Ricardo Rodríguez, according to Swiss newspaper Blick.

The Switzerland international is currently at AC Milan, who he joined from Wolfsburg in 2017, but finds himself out of favour at the club.

He made 41 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A side last season, 40 of which were as a starter, and started each of Milan’s first four league games this year as well.

However, he has found himself sat on the bench for the defeats to Torino, Fiorentina and Genoa and Blick say that’s unlikely to improve moving forward.

The newspaper believe summer signing Theo Hernández, who arrived in a €20m deal from Real Madrid, is the number one in the position and that won’t change under new manager Stefano Pioli.

Rodriguez’s days at the club ‘are probably numbered’ unless there is a complete, and surprising, change of circumstance for him.

The player isn’t allowed to discuss the situation as he’s been ‘muzzled’ by Milan, but there are clubs interested in him, and Everton are claimed to be among them.

No price tag is mentioned, but Blick say he would ‘certainly’ cost less than the €15m that Milan paid to sign him from Wolfsburg.

Quite why Everton would be interested is not explained though. They don’t need a left-back, given they’ve got Lucas Digne, and it’s unlikely they’d sign Rodriguez as a back up to him.

Likewise, there would be little sense in the Swiss international swapping the bench at Milan for the bench at Goodison Park, which makes this a rumour that seems unlikely to come to fruition.
