Whilst the transfer rumour media around Europe and beyond are falling over themselves to claim Everton interest in new players, there’s a report from Italy which is very different.

Very different indeed.

Siamo La Roma is a news source specialising in all things AS Roma, and they’ve been interested to know about reported Everton interest in Steven Nzonzi.

The French midfielder is on loan from Roma to Galatasaray and there’s been talk of a potential return.

Journalist Luca Pappaianni has taken the story on and says he’s contacted Everton’s ‘management’ to clarify whether they’re keen on Nzonzi or not. The resulting article says the source denied any chance of an attempt to sign the player, and instead said the Toffees are intending to ‘streamline’ in the winter market.

They want to ‘cut costs’, and streamlining the current squad is described as the ‘primary objective’.

This would contradict many of the other claims flying around and it’s quite possible Pappaianni has indeed contacted Everton and they’ve brushed him off with a meaningless response.

If not, it’s not going to be the winter market some fans of the club are expecting.
