When Everton goalkeeper João Virgínia completed a loan move to Sporting at the start of the season, everything pointed towards him staying with the Lions following the spell.
The player moved to Lisbon on a one-year deal plus an option for a permanent move worth only €3.5m, and with the club willing to have him playing in cup games, his playing time didn’t seem to be an issue.
However, as reported today by Record, Virgínia could end up leaving Sporting in the summer, and thus returning to Everton because of his search for more minutes.
He only has seven appearances for the club so far, and is not likely to get a lot more this season. And at this stage of his career, he believes he needs to play more.
Record claims that the situation between Virgínia and Sporting is good, since he’s well adapted to the club and the Lions acknowledge the work he’s been doing there.
The problem is that they have Antonio Adan as their first option and won’t change that just for the sake of it.
In case of a return to Everton, Virgínia’s contract with the Toffees runs until 2024, meaning he will likely end up out on loan again away from Goodison Park, or simply sold, in the summer.
