Everton have made a request for Juventus defender Daniele Rugani, but the Serie A side are not willing to let him go.
The Blues are expected to be busy this month, with Carlo Ancelotti given assurances about the transfer window before joining the club.
Adding a central defender to the squad is likely to be high on the agenda, with just three senior centre backs in the squad at present.
Rugani is one they have looked at, according to Rai Sport journalist Ciro Venerato, although their hopes of getting him seem low to non-existent.
“Rugani has also been outgoing, but will remain until June despite requests from Leicester, Arsenal and Everton,” he told Calciotoday.
“Chiellini will not be 100% before March, so it is better to take precautions by keeping another central.”
That leaves the three clubs, notably Everton, looking elsewhere for the central defender that they need.
In truth, though, a move for Rugani would make sense for all parties. Everton can offer him the playing time he needs, and Ancelotti will be more than aware of him after his recent spell managing in Italy.
With Juventus not keen on selling, though, it seems any attempt they make for him at the minute will be rejected outright.
