Everton are in the picture to sign Hoffenheim’s Dennis Geiger.
The midfielder’s deal expires next June and he’s drawing attention from the Toffees and a few other clubs.
Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg took to Twitter to report that Everton and Benfica are ‘highly interested’ in the player.
The Premier League side and Benfica are joined by a few Bundesliga sides in chasing the 24-year-old. The reporter further adds ‘talks are ongoing with all parties’.
X News #Geiger: SL Benfica & Everton highly interested in the 24 y/o central midfielder. Some Bundesliga teams too. Tendency at this stage: No contract extension at Hoffenheim, free agent 2023. Frank Lampard’s side and Geiger’s other suitors will be delighted to know the ‘tendency at this stage’ is that there will be no contract renewal for the player at Hoffenheim. He earns €1.5-2m per year.
It’s not the first time Everton have been credited with an interest in him. Back in 2019, Sport1 reported the Toffees and Manchester City were both looking at Geiger, but no deal took shape.
It remains to be seen whether the Merseyside club will be successful in signing Geiger in 2023.
Geiger can be deployed in the middle of the pitch or as a defensive midfielder. This term, he has been mainly used as the latter, managing a goal and three assists from 15 games in all competitions.
