Nottingham Forest’s Cheikhou Kouyaté was stretchered off the pitch in Senegal’s 2-0 loss against the Netherlands at the World Cup on Monday.
The Lions of Teranga manager, Aliou Cissé, started the Tricky Trees midfielder to face Oranje at the Al Thumama Stadium.
In the second half, the Nottingham Forest player was nudged by Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong while in the air. This resulted in an injury to Steve Cooper’s man. After the tie, the Senegal coach provided an update on the 32-year-old’s injury.
“Abdou Diallo has a muscular problem. Cheikhou Kouyaté twisted his ankle. I hope it’s nothing major. For now, I can’t comment on that yet. We will take stock tomorrow and we will have more information,” Cissé said, as quoted by Onze Mondial.

Journalist Papa Mahmoud Gueye took to Twitter to claim the former Crystal Palace man has suffered a tear in his right thigh. This will force him to miss Senegal’s upcoming matches against Qatar and Ecuador in the ongoing FIFA tournament.
It’s not clear whether Kouyaté will be fit if Senegal were to progress to the knockout stages of the World Cup.
Kouyaté’s blow will be another setback for Senegal, considering they have already lost their star player, Sadio Mané, for the World Cup.
