Everton flop Jean-Philippe Gbamin is a potential target for Real Betis as they eye up free transfer options to further strengthen their squad.

That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say the midfielder is a ‘new and unexpected name’ on Betis’ list of options.

Estadio explain that after selling Luiz Felipe to Al-Ittihad on Thursday, Betis are now considering whether to settle with what they have until January or look into the free transfer market.

A new name ‘has risen again’ as they look into the latter and that is former Everton midfielder Gbamin.

He had been considered earlier in the window as a potential replacement for Guido Rodriguez had he departed, but that never happened so the idea was put to one side for the time being.

However, Gbamin is now available on a free transfer after being released by Everton at the end of the window and that has made Betis interested once again.

They like that he could play in midfield but also has experience in defence and that could help them cover several areas of the squad, at least until January.

The fact they wouldn’t have to pay a fee is also tempting for a club whose finances are tight, although there is a belief that he would want a ‘transfer bonus’ if he were to sign for the Spanish side. That would presumably be a signing on bonus.

Betis are yet to make a move, but his name is ‘well placed’ among the ‘feasible alternatives’ being considered, particularly now he’s left Everton and is a free agent.
