This morning, we covered a story from AS which said that ‘many English clubs’ are interested in signing the Sevilla goalkeeper Sergio Rico.
Liverpool were the only side named in the story, but apparently the original info came from Cadena Cope last night. Mundo Deportivo covered the info as well, this time adding that Everton are also in the battle.
The Toffees would be one of these sides who would ‘have no problem’ in paying for the player’s €30m release clause, just like AC Milan. For the Serie A side, he would be a solution to replace Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The Spanish press has been treating the rumour as a huge blow for Sevilla, as they wouldn’t expect to lose the goalkeeper this summer.
But Sergio Rico was never a big object of interest in Europe, so it’s quite strange to claim that many clubs are waiting to pay the €30m.
Strangest of all is Everton, who have just paid Sunderland £30m for Jordan Pickford. The Spanish media may just want to link a string of clubs with Rico, but throwing Everton in there further discredits the whole thing.
It’s nonsense.
