Before we start this, it’s worth making something clear… There’s been many claims from South America about Wilmar Barrios moving to Tottenham and nothing has come of it, so it’s possible the same could happen with Everton.
There were even reports of Spurs agreeing a fee with Boca Juniors for the Colombian midfielder, and in the summer he spoke about the rumours himself.
At the time, Everton were also linked in Argentina, but the claims didn’t get quite as big or frequent as the Tottenham ones.
Putting all of that to one side, the Argentina edition of Marca says Everton ‘could be the destiny’ for Barrios, that they want the player, he’s one of the Toffees’ transfer ‘priorities’ and a move to the Premier League could happen in January.
It’s claimed Barrios has a €20m release clause (other figures have been used over the past year) and it would be up to Everton to pay that or try to negotiate with Boca.
The 25 year old would be able to join up with his compatriot Yerry Mina at Goodison Park.
