Valencia are currently outside La Liga’s relegation zone by virtue of only goal difference, and the crisis at the club is huge. Peter Lim arrived as the new owner with great promise but his time at Valencia has so far been a disaster.
Such is Valencia’s financial situation they need to sell if they want to sign players in the January transfer window, and Marca are eyeing Everton up as a possible destination. They state that Ronald Koeman’s club is keen on Rodrigo.
The 25 year old Brazil born one-time Spanish international is a flexible attacker, able to play up front and out wide. He’s similar to several players Koeman and Everton have been linked to in recent months.
Marca say Everton already offered €20m in August, but saw that offer refused, things would be almost certainly be different if the same happened again now.
The problem for any Everton interest is that Rodrigo hasn’t exactly set Valencia alight. One of several disappointing recruits, the forward hasn’t been terrible this season, but clearly hasn’t shown enough to make him unsellable.
Maybe Everton interest is wishful thinking from Valencia, just like the claims around Aymen Abdennour during the summer transfer window.
Back then Everton were said to be on the verge of signing the defender, but it always seemed to have at least a tinge of desperation from the media close to Valencia.
What we do know is that Valencia need money, so perhaps it’s worth Koeman having a look around their squad and seeing if Everton can take advantage of the crisis.
