Earlier this month, a report in Italy suggested Everton were interested in Bologna’s Takehiro Tomiyasu.
Gazzetta dello Sport were the ones running the story, and they claimed the Toffees were ‘following’ the Japan international as they scour Europe for a new centre-back.
Tomiyasu has surprised many with how well he took to Serie A following his transfer from Sint-Truiden, to the extent where Milan made a €15m bid for him.
Bologna rejected this, wanting €20m, and now there are a handful of clubs in England looking at him, including Everton.
Il Resto del Carlino look at the situation on Thursday, explaining Carlo Ancelotti’s side have ‘already asked for information’ about Tomiyasu.
There’s no explanation as to what Bologna’s stance is on the matter these days, but with their manager Sinisa Mihajlovic hinting that a few players may need to be sold so that the club can spend, the Japanese defender could be a necessary sacrifice.
We’ll have to wait and see what comes of it, but the fact that Everton have gone from simply following the player to asking for information about him suggests they could be heading towards making an offer down the line.
