This is a rumour which has gone quiet in the past week, but made quite a lot of noise in Brazil when it first appeared.
Manchester City and Manchester United were linked to the Grêmio forward Everton by several sources in November, with the player and club president making comments on the stories.
As there have been no further updates on the approach from these clubs, things went silent. But now that the Brazilian season has come to an end, Everton’s stay at Grêmio is being questioned once again.
ESPN Brasil managed to speak to the player, and despite confirming that he’s been getting calls from several European sides, he couldn’t say if he’s leaving Brazil in January or not.
“There are still things to happen this year, let’s see if there are any proposals to sit down and decide, there have been approaches of teams from Europe and abroad. This is normal for anyone who comes on a rise like me. You end up attracting attention, but nothing concrete arrived, but can arrive soon.
“[I received] Several contacts from various places in Europe, but nothing concrete that could seduce me and talk to Grêmio.”
And when asked if Pep Guardiola has already called him, Everton said: “Not yet. I joked about in previous interviews, I’m waiting there. If he wants to call, my phone is here. It’s nothing to compromise. But if he wants to, I’m accepting it. A good chat… even Whatsapp I accept.”
