Aleix García left Villarreal for Manchester City in 2015 when Manuel Pellegrini was in charge at the Etihad.
After a handful number of appearances in the first two years, the Premier League winners allowed the midfielder to spend the past two seasons on loan at Girona.
This provided the 22-year-old an opportunity to face European giants like Barcelona and Real Madrid and the Spaniard even featured for Girona when they registered a 2-1 victory over Los Blancos at the Santiago Bernabéu last season.
García is currently on loan at Belgian side Royal Excel Mouscron and speaking to Het Nieuwsblad, he described his experience of playing in Spain.
“You will never forget matches against Barcelona or Real Madrid. As a Catalan, winning with Girona in a packed Bernabeu was perhaps the best memory. I almost even scored against Thibaut Courtois, but I was so nervous that the ball ended up in the stands,” he said.
The newspaper claims the player wants to return to Spain and further explains Barcelona remains the ‘dream destination’ for him.
Vincent Kompany was appointed as a player-manager at Anderlecht in the summer and García reveals having talks with his former teammate.
“We had some contact in the summer, but at the time I was not the kind of player Kompany was looking for [Anderlecht],” García explained.
“Kompany was actually quite surprised by my performance so far. He knows me rather as a conservative, defensive midfielder, but at Mouscron I play a little higher, which resulted in those four goals.”
García will face Kompany when Mouscron take on Anderlecht later today.
