Lazio star Sergej Milinković-Savić has been linked to Manchester United regularly in the past and continues to be on the English club’s agenda.
On January 22nd, Corriere dello Sport reported the Red Devils are ‘always in the front row’ for the midfielder. These claims were made days after reports in Italy explained the Serie A side must ‘sacrifice’ the 27-year-old to ‘open a new cycle’ at the club.
Maurizio Sarri was appointed as Lazio’s manager last summer and Milinković-Savić initially struggled to adapt to the former Chelsea boss’ methods. He overcame it and made a ‘great recovery’, which has seen him score eight goals and register eight assists in the league.
The Serbia international’s contract is until 2024 and without a renewal, the 2022 summer will be Lazio’s last chance to cash in big from his sale. That’s according to Il Messaggero, relayed by LazioNews24.
Sarri wants to keep the star, but the Biancocelesti chairman, Claudio Lotito, is ‘hoping for an auction’ since there are clubs looking at the player.
As per the report, Juventus, Inter Milan and ‘especially Manchester United’ are ‘strongly interested’ in Milinković-Savić. These suitors, including United, must ‘beware of PSG’.
Paris Saint-Germain chief Nasser Al-Khelaifi recently met the player’s emissaries in Roma and informed his side’s willingness to offer €80m to sign the midfielder.
United’s interest is firm and it remains to be seen whether they can overcome competition from PSG and others to obtain Milinković-Savić’s signature.
