Joan García is one of the stars of the transfer rumour mill right now, with an exit from Espanyol seen as very likely in the summer window.

A few days ago it was reported in Spain that Manchester United have made some kind of offer to the player’s camp, and would be willing to pay the goalkeeper’s €25-30m release clause. Then Aston Villa were also said to be keen, despite having Emi Martinez between the sticks.

Last summer, Arsenal were repeatedly linked with the Espanyol player and it was reported in Spain that they’d made an offer which the Catalan club rejected.

Joan García has now been speaking to the Spanish media, and he confirmed that Arsenal were seriously interested in taking him to the Premier League.

Mundo Deportivo quote the 23-year-old as saying: “There was a lot of interest last summer, especially from Arsenal, but I stayed here and since then I’ve been 100% focused on this season.

“We all know the situation, not just mine but the club’s, and anything can happen. But the future will tell, and we’ll worry about it when the time comes.”

Whether Arsenal will return to have another attempt at signing the Espanyol stopper remains to be seen. Real Madrid and others in Spain have also been credited with interest and it’s unlikely Espanyol will sell for less than the player’s release clause.
