Thomas Partey and Arsenal is becoming something of a saga.
The Gunners have been linked with the midfielder for over a year, and in recent months even his father spoke to the media about the possible move. Denials then came from the player’s agents, but some in the Spanish media thought that was just to stop Atletico Madrid becoming annoyed.
Mundo Deportivo now bring things back to the present. They explain how the rumour has been around for a while, and how it repeatedly causes excitement in the Ghana media, who would clearly like to see Thomas sign for Arsenal.
Atletico and the player’s representatives plan renewal talks soon, but if nothing comes of the negotiations then it’s thought a transfer is on the cards. With a relatively reasonable buyout clause of €50m, the player would interest a lot of clubs.
Mundo say ‘especially Arsenal’ are keen, and that the Gunners have picked Thomas out as their ‘priority objective’ this summer.
A transfer would surely depend on the finances at the Premier League club. The nature of a buyout clause means it has to be paid in one go, so Arsenal would either have to do that, or negotiate a fee and payment schedule with Atletico.
