The Italian press hasn’t taken Inter Milan’s loss to Juventus at the weekend very well. Some heavy criticism was made towards the Nerazzurri’s squad, especially about the stars who arrived at the club this season.
On Monday morning, we’ve covered a story from Gazzetta Dello Sport which had some comments about Christian Eriksen. They’ve called him a ‘mysterious object’, since he hasn’t shown a lot since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in January.
His positioning was very much criticised in the story, even though he was only brought on in the second half and didn’t have a lot of time to do something.
And it turns out the Danish midfielder continues to be a hot topic in the local press. Tutto Mercato Web have managed to interview former Inter Milan defender Fulvio Collovati, who also didn’t like Eriksen’s performance.
He says the player had been the same at Tottenham, and that’s why it’s no surprise to see him like this.
“He is a difficult player and I have always said it,” Fulvio Collovati told Tutto Mercato Web. “I’ve often followed Tottenham and he’s a player who has great qualities but at a slow pace. If Conte doesn’t start him it means he doesn’t feel ready. The last year at Tottenham he had ended on the sidelines and not for contractual reasons.”
Asked if it’s a problem with the 3-5-2 system, he said: “I don’t think it’s a problem of formation. It’s a question of pace and location. In Italy you have to get used to the man on you.”
