Earlier this month, Bild stated a clause in Robin Koch’s contract allows him to leave Leeds United on a free transfer after their relegation from the Premier League. This was backed up by Sport1 in Germany.
These claims were then denied by media close to the Whites, but Bild aren’t backing down.
In their latest report, they continue to insist the defender can change clubs ‘free of charge’, despite having over 12 months left on his deal at Leeds.
Eintracht Frankfurt have the 26-year-old on top of their wish-list but Bild say they will face competition from both Manchester United and Newcastle United. The latter two can offer a lucrative salary to the centre-back and the opportunity to play in the Champions League.
Eintracht Frankfurt cannot offer this but Bild say a return to the Bundesliga would improve the Leeds player’s chances of representing Germany at the European championship. He can also have a prominent role, which the two Premier League sides cannot guarantee.
Koch hasn’t made a decision on his future and the report adds the battle for his signature is ‘entering a decisive round’.
With Bild stressing about the clause that allows Koch to leave Leeds on a free transfer, it’s likely that this information has been leaked to the German press by his camp. The defender’s agent clearly seems to be at work to take his client away from Elland Road.
Given all of that, the claims of Manchester United and Newcastle United interest could simply be for added drama.
