On Wednesday, L’Equipe had a lengthy article about the cracks starting to appear at AS Monaco.

Despite what seems like a positive start under Niko Kovac, things have plateaued a bit, with the principality side currently 6th in Ligue 1 and questions being asked about where they’re heading.

One person they might do without in that adventure is Paul Mitchell, their English director of football, who has allegedly ‘offered himself’ to Newcastle United, according to French journalist Romain Molina, who adds the information off the back of the aforementioned article.

The Magpies are still without a man to take charge of the transfer side of things following the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund’s purchase of the club, and many names have been linked.

The latest is now Mitchell, who took over as Monaco’s director of football in June 2020 following a three year spell in the Red Bull organisation at Leipzig, New York and RB Bragantino.

He also has an extensive background at spotting talent, named the Chief Scout at MK Dons, Southampton and then Tottenham between 2009 and 2017.

Whether he is the right man for the job remains to be seen, but he has good knowledge of both English and European football, which could make him a valuable asset for Newcastle in the long run, should he get the job.
