On Monday, we covered reports of an interest from Arsenal in Feyenoord’s Luis Sinisterra.

The winger, who is widely expected to be sold in the summer, was reportedly the subject of an offer from the Gunners, with the belief a price of around €15m would be enough to secure his services for next season.

It appears, however, at least according to Italian journalist Fabio Santini, that Arsenal have either decided to walk away or focus on other targets.

That’s because Napoli have overtaken then, as the reporter told Il Processo on 7 Gold, relayed by Area Napoli.

He said: “Watch out for Aurelio De Laurentiis’ club as they are very active on the transfer market. I can tell you that Luis Sinisterra will be the replacement for Lorenzo Insigne. The Azzurri club have been working on the player for some time and have even managed to overcome the strong competition from Arsenal. The English club have slipped away.”

We’ll have to wait and see about all this, but if Arsenal have indeed turned their attention to Cody Gakpo in the Eredivisie instead of Sinisterra, then this would make sense.

Both have performed admirably this season, but there is a feeling the Dutchman could end up being superior to his Colombian counterpart, which would suit Mikel Arteta perfectly.

After all, Gakpo can also play up front if needed; versatility Arsenal could really do having recently lost Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who could both play through the middle or down the left.
