On Monday, we covered claims from Spain that Diego Martinez could be set to reject another La Liga job, as he holds out for a chance in the Premier League.
The manager has been linked with Leeds United for much of this year, initially in case Marcelo Bielsa decided against renewing his contract in the summer.
He left his job at Granada in May, having guided the club to ninth position. They’re currently 17th out of 20 in La Liga, and Martinez has rejected two of the three clubs below them.
Those are Levante, in last place, and Getafe who are in 19th. Elche are 18th and recently parted ways with their own manager, and Martinez has inevitably been linked.
La Razon cover that and say the manager still has a ‘firm intention’ of getting a job in the Premier League. He ‘moved to England to continue training as a coach and perfecting the language’, and ‘could be the replacement of Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds’.
At Elland Road he would be ‘endorsed by Victor Orta’, but it needs making clear there’s no suggestion of Bielsa leaving soon, this is likely all looking towards the end of the Argentine’s contract.
There’s every chance the Elche job will also be ignored, with the Spanish side now working on appointing Hernan Crespo.
Yes, that Hernan Crespo.
