Real Madrid are stung. This week the Madrid press have been bragging about how Paul Pogba would have joined Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid had he had the chance.
Besides, Madrid had found another target in Andre Gomes. The level of Valencia’s Gomes has been elevated hugely in recent weeks, perhaps beyond his actual level, and Madrid were set to beat all-comers, reported Marca on Thursday.
However, late on Thursday night, it was announced Gomes is on his way to Barcelona, a real kick for Real Madrid. There’s likely to now be some kind of reaction from Madrid, whether that be a PR campaign or attempt at a huge signing.
El Confidencial say in an article published on Friday morning that there’s recently been a last desperate telephone call between Zidane and Pogba, with each man seemingly wanting the player to end up at Madrid, and urging the other to do what they can to help that happen.
However, it’s not happening. Florentino Perez is said to not be a huge fan, and isn’t sure about the player’s character, and isn’t keen on Mino Raiola.
Pogba’s return to Manchester United is painted as very likely indeed, but El Confidencial go out of their way to make that sound as miserable a scenario as possible.
Manchester United fans will hope that Real Madrid and their favoured press concentrate on the current bitchiness, rather than realise they could turn the whole situation on its head if they actually signed Pogba.
