Sevilla took Diego Carlos from Nantes last summer and the centre-back has enjoyed a good campaign with the La Liga side. The 27-year-old’s impressive displays haven’t gone unnoticed.
On March 19th, we covered claims from ABC Sevilla that the Brazilian is ‘on the radar’ of Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid.
The defender, who remains a key figure for Julen Lopetegui at Sevilla, had a chat with the media this week and spoke on various topics, including his future plans.
Amid claims of interest from the Reds and the two La Liga giants, the player suggested the criteria for him to leave his current employer in the next transfer window.
“I am clear that coming to Sevilla is already taking a very big step. If I ever leave Sevilla, it would be to go to a much bigger club, because Sevilla is already a great [club],” Estadio Deportivo quoted Carlos as saying.
When categorically asked if there was a call from Jürgen Klopp’s side, he responded: “So far, my agent does not talk to me about those situations. I am not interested to know about other teams.
“I always tell him that, if he is going to tell me something, then it [must] be something firm. He should not come to me with stories, because I must have my head in Sevilla. I don’t want those things to cause me a distraction.”
Carlos’ current deal at Sevilla runs down in 2024 and according to Estadio Deportivo he has a €75m release clause in his contract.
With Dejan Lovren’s future at Anfield unclear, the Merseyside club could be looking to bring in a new centre-back, if the Croatian leaves Liverpool. Whether it will be Carlos or another player remains to be seen.
