Earlier today, we carried a report from AS who claimed Barcelona defender has emerged as a transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur.
Former Barcelona director of football Raul Sanllehi had promised to offer him a new deal, 18 months ago. So far, Alba has not been offered a contract extension and has two years left on his current deal at the Catalan club, which has a €60m release clause.
Alba is currently with La Roja at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. AS reported the north London club “could make an offer” for the Spain international after the World Cup. Manchester United and Chelsea were also reportedly interested in signing the player.
Spain registered their first victory at the ongoing tournament in Russia as they defeated Iran 1-0 on Wednesday. Alba was talking at the press conference today where he was asked about the rumoured interest from Tottenham.
Alba stressed he wants to end his playing career at Barcelona and said that he has no plans to leave the La Liga winners this summer.
When asked about Tottenham’s interest, “No, no, I’m very good at Barça. If it were up to me, I would stay at Barcelona all my life,” Alba explained (via Sport).
“It does not depend only on me, but, what the club wants. It also depends on my performance, which this season has been very good, but I do not see myself outside of Barcelona.”
