West Ham United are reportedly one of the clubs who tried a late summer attempt to sign Ruslan Malinovskyi from Atalanta.

It’s Calcio Mercato who claims that following ‘excellent results’ for the Serie A side, the midfielder ended up being chased by a few clubs in the final stretch of the transfer window.

It’s said West Ham are one of those who ‘tried the coup’ and were stopped by the €50m request from Atalanta. The Italian side were said to be ‘determined more than ever’ to keep the player in the squad, and so they did.

However, there’s now a tense relationship between Malinovskyi and manager Gian Piero Gasperini. With a strange situation ‘not only on the pitch’, that means a January transfer is still possible.

Should Atalanta change their demands in view of a winter transfer, then the wheels could start moving.

There’s no indication of what West Ham were willing to pay in the summer, and that could be key come the winter market. On Transfermarkt, the Ukrainian player is valued at €28m.
