Dutch icon Pierre van Hooijdonk has warned Arsenal that Orkun Kokcu is not worth buying at this moment in time.

19-year-old Kokcu has emerged as one of the young stars to keep an eye on in the Eredivisie with a series of impressive performances helping Feyenoord to third in the table.

His tally of three goals and six assists has reportedly earned him interest from elsewhere, specifically England and Arsenal.

A report from the Daily Mail claimed the Gunners had made ‘initial overtures’ about the midfielder and were ready to make a £23m move in the summer as Mikel Arteta looks to overhaul his squad.

It remains to be seen if that happens, with it debatable whether Arsenal would sanction a relatively expensive deal for a player whose only in his second season as a professional.

Van Hooijdonk certainly thinks that is something they should be wary of, claiming it would be a ‘shame’ if Kokcu made the move to the Emirates at this point.

“Of course it is a lot of money for a ‘potential purchase’,” he told Studio Voetbal.

“With all due respect, everyone sees that he is a talent, but he has not played 34 games in Feyenoord’s first-team as a supporting man.

“His quality is, among other things, his scoring ability, but we have seen that too little this season. He can become a very good player, but I don’t think 26 million is worth it yet.

“I think it would be a shame to see such a player go to Arsenal; he hasn’t even had one super season yet.”
