Dirk Kuyt seems to rate Wayne Rooney far more highly than most Manchester United supporters, believing the striker to be one of the best players in Europe.

Therefore, it may be expected that Kuyt would be thrilled with Jose Mourinho’s decision to rest the England captain, and field a changed Manchester United team.

Not so for Kuyt, the former Liverpool player has told De Telegraaf that he’d rather face Manchester United at full strength, and for him that means Wayne Rooney being on the pitch.

The 36 year old has been quoted explaining: “Too bad, because we want to play against the best players from Europe and Wayne belongs in this.”

Manchester United are fielding a slightly changed side for the Europa League, with Mourinho balancing between the feeling of not wanting to put too much emphasis on the competition, whilst at the same time not wanting to be embarassed either.

A Feyenoord victory is the last thing Mourinho wants after his side’s poor derby performance, so this match may well have more significance than it did a week ago.
