West Ham United’s Manuel Lanzini has featured 15 times in all competitions this season and eight of them came in the UEFA Conference League, including the qualifiers.
The midfielder has a deal expiring in June and reports have regularly talked about the possibility of him returning to River Plate.
Héctor Lanzini, the West Ham player’s father, appeared as a guest on Radio La Red to talk about his son’s future and his comments are relayed by TyC Sports. He has backed the 29-year-old to join the Argentine club after this season.
“We are all River fans and partners. The whole family. Sitting there and seeing Manu would be a pride, sharing it again even with my oldest grandson,” he said.
“Then there is a problem here that is social, living in a difficult country with economic problems and insecurity, but putting River shirt back on is a dream for the whole family.”
David Moyes’ side have an option to extend the Argentina international’s contract by two more years. Lanzini Sr admitted he is unaware whether the Hammers plan to extend his son’s contract.
“He is at West Ham, his contract ends in June and the club has the power to renew him for two more years. The club is excellent,” Héctor explained.
“I just came from Europe, he has some chances to go elsewhere, but the league is very competitive, most of them are limited companies, there are no financial problems and that helps individual growth. I don’t do futurology, I don’t know what the leaders of the club will think.”
The possibility of the West Ham player returning to River Plate doesn’t depend only on his desire.
“Between his desire to return to River and this issue of security, it is going to be defined. It’s a bit like that, he has his family and there are decisions that are very respectable, he doesn’t decide only because of what I can tell him,” Manuel’s father stressed.
“As a family, I would be the happiest guy in the world if I see my son again at River. But there are other issues.”
TyC Sports state River Plate contacted Manuel, but it was difficult for him to leave in the winter market because West Ham demanded compensation. If he were to be released after this season, the midfielder’s plan would be to return to his old club.
