SC Freiburg’s Merlin Röhl has ended up on Liverpool’s radar, according to a report from Germany.
The midfielder joined the German club from FC Ingolstadt 04 in 2022 and was initially part of their reserve team. He’s been featuring for them regularly since last season, where he made 34 appearances in all competitions.
Röhl’s performances for Freiburg helped him make debut for Germany U21 a year ago and even represented them in September’s international break. His displays have also caught the attention of Liverpool.
That’s at least what Bild journalist Christian Falk is reporting, and he took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to provide a short update about the Reds.
Falks says Liverpool sent a scout to follow the player closely, without making it clear when the official watched him.
Röhl hasn’t featured since the last international break. It’s possible that Liverpool took a closer look at him while he was in action for Germany’s U21s. Freiburg’s are presented as panicking over Liverpool’s interest as Falk claims they have offered him a new deal.
The journalist hasn’t taken into account that the player already extended his contract on September 18th, as officially announced by SC Freiburg themselves.
