Ansu Fati is very much seen as the future of Barcelona and has been hyped up by the Catalan media for over a year.
That has included claims of Manchester United wanting to spend as much as €150m on the player, claims which appeared to be more concerned with making Barca look strong than actual reality.
Regardless of the hype, Ansu Fati has continued his development and become so important for Barcelona that it was a genuine blow when he injured his knee earlier this month.
A meniscus issue was revealed after tests, and then it was decided an operation was the best way to make sure the 18-year-old gets back on the pitch in the best possible shape.
Given that his hospital stay lasted longer than usual, there’s been some concern in Barcelona that things didn’t go well. Dr Ramon Cugat has now explained the reasoning, and that it was down to the player himself.
Quoted by Sport, Cugat said: “He wanted to spend more days in the clinic to do the first days of rehabilitation right there . But I cannot comment more on how he is, since it is the FC Barcelona doctor who must report these things.”
On Gerard Pique’s injury, Cugat added: “I still do not know if he will have to undergo surgery. First we will have to examine him and see the images. At the moment I have not seen him.”
There’s a very real fear that Pique could be out for the rest of the season, although there’s some hope Ansu Fati will be able to return before then.
