Over the past week, RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku has been subject to some rather big transfer rumours, even though the market closed over a month ago.
It was first claimed, in Germany, that the player had undergone a medical in Frankfurt, ahead of a potential move to Chelsea next summer. Those medical claims were then questioned in France, although it was made clear the Blues are pushing ahead to sign him.
Then reports from the UK backed that up, followed by German claims that an announcement could be made way ahead of the transfer actually happening, as had been the case when Naby Keita moved from Leipzig to Liverpool.
Chelsea are aware they can use Nkunku’s €60m release clause next summer, and therefore wouldn’t have to negotiate with the Bundesliga club.
Kicker cover the press conference and say there were questions about Nkunku’s potential ‘imminent’ move to Chelsea.
Manager Marco Rose responded: “We don’t comment on speculation, we don’t care about it.”
Also at the press conference was the attacker’s teammate, Dominik Szoboszlai, and he said: “I have the same answer as the coach. We don’t talk much about speculation. He knows that he is one of our players and that he has to do the best for us. We know that he does everything for the team will continue to do so.”
