Newcastle United have ‘thrown everything they have’ at Sevilla defender Diego Carlos, and the player has asked the Spanish club to leave.
That’s according to Marca, who say the player’s wish ‘doesn’t matter’ at this stage as Monchi will not sell for anything but an ‘off-market offer’.
The newspaper explains that Sevilla do fear they will lose Carlos this month amid the efforts from Newcastle, who have offered him a contract that they could never compete with.
As a result, the Brazilian is ‘pushing to leave’, and Newcastle are aided by the fact that the player’s representatives have a ‘good connection’ to those in charge at St James Park.
Their plan is to use the player’s desire for the move to get him at a reduced price, but Sevilla are holding out, first rejecting the initial offer of €25m and treating the second, which exceeds €35m, with the same response.
As far as they’re concerned, it ‘doesn’t matter what Diego thinks’, and they will only sell for an ‘off-market’ price. If that doesn’t arrive, they will wait until the summer.
This is something we’ve seen before, with a report yesterday stating the same and ABC Sevilla basically echoing what Marca are saying here as well, but insisting the player is yet pushing for an exit.
That would suggest Sevilla are putting the same message out to anyone who asks about Newcastle and Carlos; he’s not for sale, unless the Magpies offer a huge price for him.
That’s because Carlos’ departure would ‘destroy’ the team.
Monchi is planning just in case a suitable bid arrives, but he is ‘confident’ that Newcastle will continue to offer below what has been asked for, meaning he can continue to reject them.
The ‘alarm bells are ringing’ and there ‘days of uncertainty’ ahead, but for now, unless Newcastle go wild, Diego Carlos will not be getting the move.
