Djibril Sidibé signed for Everton in 2019, in a loan deal from AS Monaco. He left in 2020, at the end of the temporary period, and did reasonably well for the Goodison Park club.
At various points throughout the loan there were expectations Everton would either try to make the move permanent, for a reduced fee, or work to try and get another loan deal with Monaco.
That didn’t happen, and instead the Frenchman returned to his parent club, where he remains.
Tuesday’s edition of L’Equipe reports he’s dropped out of the picture at the Ligue 1 side. Monaco have won six games in a row in the league, and the 29-year-old has only featured in one of those.
According to the French newspaper, Sidibé is preparing to leave as a free agent in the summer, with his contract expiring at the end of June. It’s stated there’s been contact with clubs in England, although those clubs aren’t named.
This could be an opportunity for Everton in the summer, as long they retain their Premier League status. Sidibé’s stock has fallen, and that may mean the Toffees have a chance.
