Filip Jørgensen and Mike Penders signed for Chelsea from Villarreal and KRC Genk respectively in the summer window.

Enzo Maresca has included Jørgensen in his plans this season, while the Blues let the 19-year-old return to Genk on a loan deal.

Earlier claims have stated Chelsea paid around €20m to the Belgian club to secure Penders. He has signed a contract at Stamford Bridge until 2032 before returning to Genk on loan.

Thursday’s edition of Het Belang van Limburg has an interview with Genk head of football Dimitri de Condé, who discussed the youngster’s sale to Chelsea.

The Belgian stopper graduated from the Jupiler Pro League side’s academy and made his way into their first team last month. He was sold to the Premier League side before the Genk fans could see the youngster shine for the club.

HBVL asked De Condé whether he has mixed feelings over Penders’ transfer to the Blues. When responding to that, the director admitted it was difficult for Genk to reject Chelsea’s offer.

“That’s why we are satisfied that Penders can play here for another year,” he said.

“But it’s true, we first want to see players help win prizes at Genk before they make their step up. But then such a large club comes with a lucrative contract for eight years, which includes financial security and a well-defined trajectory within various clubs.

“These are deals that you as a club cannot refuse, both for your own health and in the interests of the player.”

Penders will have tough competition for a place at Chelsea, after he returns from the loan spell at Genk.
