Manchester City’s João Cancelo has been on loan at Barcelona since the last window.

On December 1st, Mundo Deportivo stated the right-back is clear that his career at the Etihad is ‘over’. It was also reported the La Liga side want to buy him and are aiming to agree a deal with the Citizens next month.

At the weekend, Barcelona president Joan Laporta revealed his side are planning to “begin negotiations shortly” with Manchester City and Atlético Madrid for the 29-year-old and João Félix respectively. The forward also arrived at the Camp Nou on a dry loan deal.

AS points out the comments made by Laporta and adds that Barca sporting director Deco ‘wanted to put a stop’ to the president’s aspirations of buying the Portuguese duo.

The Blaugrana director has suggested it’s too early to discuss the possibility of buying the Manchester City owned player and his compatriot.

“Before talking about Joãos we have to win games. 2023 is not even over, we know what we have to do and we are more concerned on a day-to-day basis,” he said, relayed by AS.

Three days ago, AS stated the Spanish club could offer around €20m for Cancelo and believe it would be sufficient to convince Pep Guardiola’s side.
