IFK Goteborg sporting director Mats Gren has told the club’s website that it’s good for the Swedish side to keep Pontus Dahlberg until the summer.
Yesterday Dahlberg signed for Watford, after being linked with the Premier League side in recent months. Napoli were also reported to be keen on signing the Swede.
Following the youngster’s transfer to Watford, Gren released a statement: “He will be with us until this summer and then leave for England. Of course, it’s fun for Pontus. Also it’s good for us to keep him for half a season. We’re just lending him over the spring.”
Dahlberg has signed for Watford on a five and half year deal, and he’ll join up with his new teammates for preseason training after the English side agreed to loan him back to IFK until the end of the campaign.
The fee hasn’t been disclosed by either club, but it’s expected the 18 year old’s move to England broke the transfer record for a Swedish goalkeeper.
Dahlberg is the current IFK No.1, and he will have intentions to be Watford’s first choice next season.
