Feyenoord have identified Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson as new target, after missing out on an opportunity to sign Manchester United’s Amad Diallo.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had confirmed the youngster will go out on loan and various reports indicated the Red Devils are close to agreeing a deal with the Dutch club.
Frank Arnesen, the technical director of Eredivisie side, confirmed talks with the Old Trafford club for the 19-year-old, but a move has now been cancelled after Diallo picked up an injury in training.
“He got injured, it [transfer] does not go through,” he was quoted as saying by Algemeen Dagblad.
“Too bad, everything was done. I’ve talked a lot with the people at Manchester United, but it’s more sensible to let him recover at that club. It may be a while before he is back.”
Arnesen’s comments suggest the Ivory Coast international is not expected to make a quick return to the pitch, which could also rule out his chances of going out on loan to another club.
The Dutch side are in the market looking for alternatives to Diallo, and Feyenoord Transfermarkt state Arsenal’s Nelson could ‘become the new winger’ of Arne Slot’s side.
Feyenoord have less than 48 hours to find an agreement with Arsenal and Mikel Arteta’s man, if they are to sign Nelson late in the window.
